Looking to the past for the future…

As the centenary of the First World War approaches, the need to capture the stories of those individuals that made contributions throughout the four year’s of conflict has become more apparent. As so often is the case with history, many voices and stories are lost with the gradual progression of time.

It is with this in mind that The Historic Dockyard Chatham is looking to collect these stories, to help preserve a collective memory for future generations. However, we need your help! Over the coming months, we intend to upload pictures, documents and objects that are within our collection – many of which are not on display. This will help start to tell our story and hopefully inspire you to contact us and share yours. Hopefully, with time, an archive will be built that is a tribute to the men and boys who served in the Chatham Division of the Royal Navy and those men and women who worked in the dockyard.
